Abe doesn't just teach blues — he lives it.
You feel it in every lesson.
Play your first blues riff in Lesson Two —
even if you've never played before.
Gravel is about learning music the way musicians actually learn it — through rhythm, listening, feel, and real playing.
The goal isn't memorizing theory. The goal is learning how to play music that means something. Playing from the heart.
These courses focus on what matters most:

Abe Reid — North Carolina Roots Musician
Abe Reid is a North Carolina musician and one of the modern keepers of the Piedmont roots music tradition. Born in Forsyth County and raised in Statesville, Reid began playing guitar at a young age, developing a deep connection to the region's historic finger-style traditions.
Reid's musical education came directly from the source. As a young player he spent time with legendary Carolina musicians Guitar Gabriel and Cootie Stark, learning not only guitar technique but also the storytelling and spirit behind traditional American music.
In the 1990s Reid immersed himself in the life of a working musician, busking on the streets of New Orleans before returning to North Carolina's music scene. He later helped form the roots band The Blue Rags, known for energetic performances and traditional sounds.
Reid gained international recognition when he won the International Blues Challenge in Memphis — becoming the first solo performer to win the competition.
Today Abe Reid continues to perform, teach, and share the music of the American South, passing on the knowledge he learned from older musicians and from years on the road.

Abe Reid isn't a YouTube personality or a music school instructor. He's a working musician who has spent decades on stages across America, learning the music from the people who carried it.
What you learn in these courses comes from real experience — from the streets of New Orleans, from the back porches of North Carolina, from years of performing alongside musicians who learned the music the same way.
That's what Gravel is. Music learned the hard way, passed on the right way.

"If you can hold a guitar, Abe can teach you to play."
Whether you're picking up a guitar for the first time or refining years of experience, Gravel will help you develop real musical skills — the kind that last.
